I also saw it as a love between 2 forces that try to be in union with each other but keep running into obstacles. Like the cactus and the flower- "the sun was too much" and dried up the flower. Even though it was pretty for a while, the cactus had to do without it eventually. The "snow man" (a man with a cold/not really ready for love disposition) and the swimming freely mermaid - she loves him but can't survive with him out of the water. The snowman finally gives in and they can "swim together at last". Love between 2 people and God's love for all humankind...ohhhh I get it...:) Hmm that’s one way to see it.
