50,000 words or somewhere thereabout

My first NaNoWriMo comes to a close today. I feel like I should have some kind of an article to commemorate the experience – the long hours of staring at the same sentence, the sleepless nights, the writer’s block. Come to think of it – I do. I have a great start to an exciting novel. Notice I said start.

I didn’t make the 50k word count (my official count as of this writing is 18,658) but it was never about that for me. It was about getting a headstart on a novel that I was planning on writing next year. I got further than I planned and I’ve learned a lot along the way. I also like to think that I encouraged one particular individual (who may have had no idea of my brilliant plan all along – GO QLOU!!) to move forward on a novel.

My actual goal has always been to finish writing my novel by December 31, 2008. That will happen – God willing. To make the experience more interesting (and so I don’t slack off), I’m not shaving until I finish writing it. Why? Because I’ve alway been a little special like that.

Most awesome Kenn that you were able to not only meet but
surpass your personal goal. My holiday wish for you is that
you be able to cocoon in silence and solitude with your book
    and write, write, write.

I am so happy to hear that you were able to get a very good head start on your novel (which I look forward to reading). Even if you only had 1,000 words it would have been 1,000 more than you had 30 days ago. Keep pushing that pen, pencil, crayon or keyboard. 🙂

BTW… I hope to see that face BEFORE you shave it..lol. 😉

Hmmmm I would be fibbing if I said that I did not pick up on the subtle aroma of a sweet sub plot hidden beneath your friendly invite for me to participate with you in Nanowrimo. A thousand thank you’s for the inspiration, motivation and shout out’s. You know black folk love shout out’s!! I was unable to reach 50k, but my tip tapping continues. July 10th 2009 keep those pupils dilated for Virgo. She is ascending. Peace…

Well, you certainly accomplished something noteworthy. As for myself, I didn’t even get past a few days work on it. Not that I’m surprised, that’s my typical follow-through. At least you were able to make some progress and inspire others.

I can’t wait till you finish your story. It’s a really interesting concept and I’d love to read it.

So NaNoWriMo has turned you from a jocular young man full of gaity and frivolity
into a noble and dignified man of letters whose only thought is of his craft? Lol.
