One of my pet peeves during this most reflective time of year is when people recite some configuration of ‘New Year’ but with an ‘s’ added to the end.
For example, “What are your plans for New Years?” Or, “I hope my New Years is better than this year.” Or, “Happy New Years to you.” Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I wait and patiently listen for them to follow ‘Years’ with ‘Eve’ or ‘Day’ but it doesn’t happen.
Why is the ‘s’ there? It’s only ONE year! There is no point to this post no more than there is a point to add ‘s’ where it doesn’t belong. But I digress.

I think the habit evovled from shortening “New Year’s Eve” and “New Year’s Day” to New Years, but then again I can’t explain why people say “My New Years” lol. 🙂

I wanted to believe that too, but I think it’s just lazy talking that has become the norm.
