fifth Quarter

These dreams, these fiends, these tweens and cut scenes,
Expectations of momentum and necessities of a spleen.

These winter Monday’s in June are reminiscent of a fifth quarter.
Should I slay myself again or ask a bigger God to expand my borders?

These sorrowed nights and broken glass and drafts from underneath,
Give greater cause to perpetuate and strive for more than just to be.

Oh, these falls, these stalls, these empty halls and caterwauls,
Apprehension’s got me hopeful, while my bladder has the gall.

happy Loving Day

Happy Loving Day!!

Today is indeed Loving Day which marks the anniversary of the 1967 United States Supreme Court decision, Loving vs. Virginia, which struck down all anti-miscegenation laws remaining in 16 states citing “There can be no doubt that restricting the freedom to marry solely because of racial classifications violates the central meaning of the equal protection clause.”

kenn bivins 40

born again

Today is my birthday.
I’m 40.
I don’t feel it.

In other news,
I turned in my resignation today.

I’ll be working as an Art Director at my new gig.
God is awesome in his timing.
Yay, God! You go!

As for today and the rest of the week…
I relax, reflect, and reset.
I’m digging this 40.

and so it is…

And so it is… 30 days later. July 1st. It seems much of my celebration of my birth month, June, was met with a lot of busyness but I got some serious reflection and celebration of self in there too.

I’m not sure that I’m cut out for blogging everyday but I do plan on blogging more regularly when time and inspiration allows.

In case you’re wondering what I’ve been up to… I’m currently shopping for an agent for my novel (Pious), illustrating my children’s book (A Jar of Mayonnaise), drafting a short story (Clean), and finishing writing edits on a second children’s book (Better There) that I will illustrate later this year. (whew!) Now what was that I said about busyness?

we got game

It’s hot outside and but that’s ’cause we’re outside. Oh yeah.
